Comedian Mocks Nanny State Nonsense on Daily Show

Anyone else think it’s odd that The Huffington Post finds humor in a comedian’s rant against government intrusion in citizens’ lives? In and of itself, that’s funny enough, but watch Lewis Black systematically dismantle the nanny state with his sarcasm and wit if your pants are still dry.

Happy Meal Fascist Wins NSLF’s “Golden Screw” Award

Eric Mar, San Francisco Board of Supervisors (Calif.)

Supervisor Mar led the city’s now infamous assault on children’s beloved Happy Meal toys and has also been busy in recent months trying to regulate citizen’s intake of soft drinks.

“I’m proud that we protect the public’s health,” Mar says. “We’re part of a movement that is moving forward an agenda of food justice,” he proclaimed upon securing a veto-proof vote to ban Happy Meal toys.

Mar gained extra points in our consideration with his crafty use of shoddy data to force his big government agenda down the throats of citizens both young and old.

When Mar’s not telling citizens what they can’t eat and drink, he can be seen pressuring pet stores to quit selling dogs and cats.

Congratulate Eric Mar on this honor on his Facebook page! Since he no longer allows citizens he doesn’t know or trust to look at or post on his Wall, click “Send Eric a Message” below his profile picture to make sure he receives your virtual high-five!

Does trampling on citizens' rights and liberties count as "torture," Eric?

Popular Democratic Website Invokes Nanny State Rules

Like This!

Unless you're bashing Republicans

Unless you're bashing Republicans

A popular online hangout for Left-wingers to freely discuss political news, views and spew venom about their enemies on the Right wants its members to adjust their behaviors or face banishment from the website.

Democratic Underground (DU), well-known for its no-holds-barred and often profanity-laced attacks against Republicans and conservatives, is embracing President George H.W. Bush’s call for a “kinder, gentler” America and citizenry. However, the DU feels its members need only be respectful of fellow Left-wingers, leaving their opponents open for malicious attacks, character assassinations and whatever tasteless banter they use to make themselves feel better than anyone on the Right who disagrees with them.

Upon DU’s launch in 2001 when Republicans had control of the White House and Congress, DU members enjoyed posting countless rants about their nemesis, President George W. Bush, and things were good. Today, faced with a Democrat-controlled White House and Congress, things are still pretty good for DU members as much can still be blamed on President Bush and the Republicans who they claim left a big mess for Democrats to clean-up.

As luck would have it, not every DU member is happy with their current Democratic leadership, and things are starting to get a bit hairy, as evidenced by a June 21 website rules revision proposed by DU Administrator David Allen, aka, “Skinner.” Allen explained to members yesterday that the “the lack of a common villain in the form of George W. Bush” has resulted in once loyal Democrats engaging in hate speech against fellow members and leaders of their own Party, and it must stop immediately.

Do not make fun of Obama! He can do that on his own.

Do not make fun of Obama! He can do that on his own.

“Please note that in this effort, we gave special consideration to what can and cannot be said about prominent Democrats.” Allen explained to DU members of his crackdown on their former right to free speech on his website. “Now that we have a Democratic President, I do not think it is unreasonable to expect that he be shown more respect here than the illegitimate, incompetent asshole who previously held the office. He should be referred to as ‘President Obama,’ ‘Barack Obama,’ or simply ‘Obama.’ Calling him derogatory names (including ‘Barry’), attacking him with content-free insults, or parroting partisan attacks from the McCain/Palin campaign, are all disrespectful to this community as a whole. If you think that is unreasonable, then you are going to have difficulty here going forward.”

Additional restrictions on DU members’ online behaviors towards fellow Democrats include (view complete list):

Inappropriate attacks against Democrats
– Insults against prominent Democrats, such as “F$%k Obama.” (DU preferred to spell-out the profanity to make their point clear. The NSLF doesn’t think that’s necessary.)
– Name-calling against prominent Democrats. Calling Barack Obama “Barry” or some other name.
– Repeating Republican partisan attacks against Democrats.
– Broadly suggesting that there is no difference between Barack Obama and George W. Bush, or that there is no difference between Democrats and Republicans. (Arguing that specific policies are the same would be permitted.)
– Suggesting that President Obama has perpetrated a “con job” or “fraud,” or similarly over-the-top assertions of bad faith.
– Advocating voting against Democrats, or in favor of third-party or GOP candidates.
– Broad-brush smears against Democrats generally. Broad expressions of contempt toward Democrats generally.

Personal Attack – When discussing individual DU members, the following are considered personal attacks:
– Personal attacks, name-calling, or other insults.
– Telling someone to “shut up,” “screw you,” “go away,” “fuck off,” or the like.
– Calling someone a liar, or calling a post a lie.
– Calling someone a conservative, disruptor, or similar.
– Calling someone a bigot.
– Belittling someone for being new or having a low post count.
– Negatively “calling out” someone who is not participating in the discussion.

NOTE: There are zero restrictions against DU members continuing their daily barrage of tasteless and often baseless attacks on Republicans and conservatives. It’s only a violation of the rules if you engage in “Calling someone a conservative” or “Advocating voting against Democrats, or in favor of third-party or GOP candidates.”

"Remember to only post nice things about me on the Democratic Underground!"

"Remember to only post nice things about me on the Democratic Underground!"

“Going forward, members who break the rules repeatedly will be automatically brought up for regular reviews in the Moderator Forum,” Allen concludes in his conduct code warning. “When this occurs, the moderators will take a look at the member’s recent activity to decide whether it is appropriate to take any additional enforcement action: sending a private message, sending a warning, handing out a suspension, or banning someone outright.”

While the DU is likely not a fan or supporter of the Nanny State Liberation Front, we feel strangely compelled to demand David Allen tear down his walls prohibiting DU members from engaging in free speech and dissenting against “prominent” Democrats, especially with regards to Barry, Nancy and Harry.
